This is a very heartfelt piece and has given me pause for thought as to whether those who attack Blair do have some satisfaction from how catastrophically the invasion of Iraq became as it proved those against the war right, just as some seem to be smugly satisfied that Brexit and Trump will screw over the working class as it proved they were right. But I do not feel satisfied in being correct that the invasion was a mistake, only further depressed by how it contributed to the destabilisation of the Middle East. Unlike the Balkan situation, Blair had no immediate reason to interfere in Iraq. Otherwise, he should have also invaded North Korea, Zimbabwe and other countries hostile to human rights. He lied about WMDs and continued to stubbornly lie about it when none were found. I might agree with him about Brexit but his presence, like that of David Cameron, was unhelpful, and only hardens the hearts of those we try to sway.
